My mother is a remarkable, strong, intelligent and beautiful woman, and I love her to death. But so help me, I just spent about 134 minutes on the phone with her, trying to explain to her how to copy and paste a url into an email. [1]
Two conclusions. One, my mother might need some remedial work on her computer chops before she sends her resume to Sergey Brin.
Two, I should never, ever work in tech support.
NOTES
1. Yes, I am taking some narrative license. The url-copying and -pasting incompletion component of the call actually only spanned 19 minutes. But the entire call comprised multiple discrete, similarly painstaking and abortive episodes. Plus, as I now know, 19 equals 134 in tech support years.
